Join the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra for an unforgettable night of classical music as harpist Christina Brier takes the stage for the 2023-2024 season finale, Harp and Soul. Brier will mesmerize audiences with her performance of Kaska's Concerto for Harp and Orchestra, showcasing the full range and beauty of the harp. Harpist, Executive Director, and educator, Christina Brier, performs harp as a soloist, orchestra member, and chamber musician throughout the coastal North Carolina region and beyond. She is principal harpist of the Wilmington Symphony, Carolina Philharmonic, and Opera Wilmington Orchestra. She also performs frequently with the North Carolina Symphony. Christina presents chamber music in a variety of settings. She performs with Manhattan harpist Kathryn Sloat as a member of the international prize-winning harp duo Lilac 94. In September 2018, Lilac 94 placed third in the International Harp Competition in Saluzzo, Italy. Lilac 94 performed “Freude” from Karl Stockhausen’s twenty-one-hour chamber work Klang with Analog Arts in Philadelphia in 2018 and at Montreal’s New Music Festival in 2019. With the Brierwood Ensemble, Christina presents Candlelight Christmas annually at the Tryon Palace in New Bern, NC. In 2018 she co-founded a nonprofit community music school, Brooklyn Arts Music Academy (BAMA), with violinist Linda Estep where she teaches harp and operates as Executive Director. BAMA serves 600 students of all ages, 450 of whom are preschool children receiving free, weekly music education through Music is Life!. Christina also teaches harp at University of North Carolina, Wilmington. In 2014, Christina spent 6 months touring India performing as a solo harpist and chamber musician. Christina received her master’s degree in harp performance from the Eastman School of Music where she studied with Kathleen Bride.
