WSYO CHAMBER ENSEMBLES PROGRAM

The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra strives to create a lifelong appreciation for music and experiences for young people – whether they choose to pursue a degree in music or become an active audience member and arts supporter – they will always have a skill and talent that will enrich their lives.

Joining a small ensemble is the most collaborative form of music making around! Every player has their own, individual part to play, and at the same time, the handful of players learn to work together to play as one.

Each WSYO Chamber Ensemble student must contribute fully for their group to achieve success. Students gain musical and interpersonal technical skills. They learn to listen to and watch each other closely, sometimes leading, and other times following. The students develop a musical imagination and self-confidence as they test their creative ideas together, and they learn to give and be open to constructive criticism.

Some common types of chamber music groups are:

  • String quartet (two violins, viola, cello)

  • Woodwind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn)

  • Piano trio (violin, cello, piano)
